About me
I was born on 2 February 1980 in Urla. After completing my secondary education at Bornova Anadolu High School and İzmir Science High School, I graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 2003 with a national degree. I completed my specialisation in Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Dokuz Eylül University in 2009 with my thesis comparing intravitreal treatments with full and reduced-dose photodynamic therapy combinations in patients with age-related macular degeneration.
After completing my compulsory service at the Dr. Behçet Uz Children’s Diseases and Surgery Education and Research Hospital in Izmir and the Turgutlu State Hospital in Manisa, I returned to the Department of Ophthalmology at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 2012 as a specialist physician. , where I was appointed Assistant Professor in 2013 and Associate Professor in 2018. I have had a private clinic in İzmir Konak since 2021, and in 2024, I was awarded the title of Professor at İzmir Tınaztepe University, where I began working.
In 2016, I passed the written and oral exams of the European Board of Ophthalmology in Paris, France, and received my European Ophthalmology diploma with the title of FEBOph. In 2017, I trained in adult and paediatric retinal diseases and surgery under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Michael Trese and Prof. Dr. Antonio Capone at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in the United States, and in 2018, I trained in macular diseases and surgery under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Karl Ulrich Bartz -Schmidt and Prof. Dr. Faik Gelişken at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Tübingen Medical School in Germany to receive training in macular diseases and surgery. In addition to my memberships in the İzmir Medical Association and the European Retina Surgeons (EURETINA) Association, I am an active member of the Medical Retina Unit and the Vitreoretinal Surgery Unit of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association.
Between 2012 and 2023, I served as the education coordinator for the Dokuz Eylül University Ophthalmology Residency Programme and as the responsible faculty member for the Ophthalmology internship of the Faculty of Medicine’s 5th Year Education Committee. During this period, I also served as the responsible faculty member for the Diagnosis and Treatment Unit for Premature Retinopathy at the Retina Unit of the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine, Dokuz Eylül University. In addition to over 100 scientific articles and 5 book chapters published in multiple languages, I have presented nearly 250 papers at domestic and international conferences. I am married and the father of two children.
